I *did* get taught beginning programming, but it was an elective and I really think it needed to be a requirement for the same reason basic knowledge of science and history are important for providing a baseline knowledge to the population. Given how many people are jumping on the vibecoding train, I think it's probably too late to start instructing youth on how computers work. Computers are magic now and AI are our new gods.
