So I was going through a bunch of old dvd-r and cd-r that I have and found some old recordings of my old band (early 2000's) - recorded with Audacity in the old aup format, which is a just an XML file defining what this whole bunch of small .au files do to become sound! (for want of a better explanation 🤣 ). Anyway, recent audacity can't play these and there is no such tool to convert them, unless you want to try some dodgy cloud service. Um, NO! I figured they should play in a 2.x.x version of Audacity but how do I install something that old?
Debian Buster I figure, on a VM in qemu on -current. What could be simpler with what I have available? Well, not that simple and I'm no apt expert but once I got apt pointing to sources that work and a key that works I got everything to update and just installed Audacity-2.2.2. It is now fingers crossed that this wasn't a waste of a Monday time! #slackware #debian #audacity 🤞
