While I started programming in 1986, I for some strange reason I've never really understood myself went and got a degree as a Mechanical Engineer before I then directly went and also became a Software Engineer. This allows me to have ... opinions.
Those are: Software development is not engineering, and never has been. It's more like craftsmanship.
Unsurprisingly, my alma mater rescinded an invitation for me to come speak for new students.
