Some effects, like speeding up or slowing down the tempo, are difficult or impossible with a click track. But unless you're a machine like Ringo Starr, you probably will benefit from a click track most of the time so you don't get overconfident and leave a mess later.

One of my friends had a band where they had to fire their drummer in the middle of recording and have the engineer play as a session drummer, because they couldn't play to a click. Good to practice before that happens.
