It's correct that the (Social) Democrats (and basically all parties usually considered “center-left” in most of the West) have been a huge disappointment for decades.

In large part because all of them have bought the neoliberal Reagan-Thatcher-Kohl turn of the 1980s and 1990s and since then only compete with the conservatives in who does capitalism better.

I'd really want hope that there is a way out of this without too many of the countless crises becoming catastrophes.

But politics have changed before, and they can change again (note that I didn't say they *will* change - just that they *can*, because *we* can change them). Society may feel deadlocked, but crises precipitate change.
