In Germany, because the working hour laws are so strict, devs do all kinds of tricks, like checking out every time they use the elevator, go to the washroom, etc. This buys them a bit more time to work each day.
Made me wish I could have hired some of the people I was working with there! Nobody I've worked with here has worked as hard as people do there.
Mind you, that doesn't at all help the person you are studying right now.
