"Autonomy without awareness is merely ego on a longer leash" is the line most sovereignty talk skips because it's uncomfortable. It implies you can build the most elegant decentralised system in the world and still be operating from the same frightened, defended centre that built the old one. Different architecture. Same architect.

The phrase "ego death" never sat right with me. The ego doesn't die. It transmutes. From subject to object. From identity to interface. A trained wine palate works the same way. Early on, big loud flavours dominate. That's the ego at full volume. As discernment develops, that wall becomes transparent. Not because the flavours vanish but because the palate refines. What emerges is sensitivity to subtlety.

The ego does this too. Crude intensity recedes. What remains is a more precise instrument. Still functional. But serving rather than ruling. It signs the contract, holds the boundary, makes the call. Then rests.

In Sahaja Samadhi there's observing but no observer. The ego was pretending to be both seer and seen. Continuous awareness ends that. You don't lose the capacity to act. You lose the compulsion to perform.

That's the part the cypherpunks intuited but didn't name. Bitcoin doesn't care who you think you are. It records what you do. It's the same demand Ram Dass made: stop performing, start participating.
