This is an #insect rant, but what is it with Americans insisting that Harmonia axyridis aren't #ladybugs?! Ladybug [beetle], #ladybird [beetle], and lady beetle are all synonyms for beetles in family Coccinellidae, but online I am constantly encountering (almost exclusively) Americans who insist that because it's not indigenous to the USA it's not a ladybug.
What is causing this particular piece of misinformation? Because I have seen literally *thousands* of people spreading it.
