Most people I talk to in the UK are unaware that high-qualification "professional" jobs in the US typically come with full or near-full health coverage, on top of the base compensation. When I worked as a programmer in the US, I always had full health coverage and earned 1.5X as an early career programmer what I make as an associate professor / senior lecturer in the UK (a job that requires a decade of additional qualifications and intangible skills).
