here's my story:
About 15 years there was a need to parse 2GB sized log files and I was told that I will not be given access to hadoop supercluster. I built a 60 line script running in AWK to do that on a 2GB RAM single machine. This script was supposed to be stop gap. The script is still running in production and people "owning that" are terrified of touching it. I still have a job as "AWK Maintainer" if I ever want it. 🤷
