I just ran into this "garden" at a rental house where I was helping plant some tomatoes:
Thick, canvas-like tarp

6–8 in of old, decomposing mulch on top

Dense, suffocated clay underneath

Holes cut through the tarp to place a few generic nursery plants with a bit of soil around each one

We had permission to cut holes for the tomatoes and I made a big virtual pot full of compost and soil inside the clay for each one, but it was difficult just to cut through the tarp.

Are there really businesses that do this kind of thing and have the nerve to call themselves "landscaping companies"?
