Unbidden memory of the day:
1998 or '99, Sydney. Walking uphill on Phillip Street, away from the Opera House. Lady in front of me is short, stout, wearing a too-tight glamorous dress and high heels, and a fox stole that appears to be a whole fox.
The fox is dangling over her shoulders, head bobbing about, its little front legs waving to and fro. It was a frightening sight.
