Trying to work through random Docker issues has me feeling very dumb today. I’m trying to set up a localdev environment for something, and it’s unusually difficult to get everything to work.

Normally, I’m pretty good with this kind of thing, but there’s a ton of unknowns with where things live in the container, what various programming languages / frameworks expect, what two different package managers are doing, and why certain things randomly fail.

The biggest headache is just figuring deciphering random error messages and figuring out what to do. The postgres database container is confused, and thinks a script file doesn’t exist when in fact it’s right there. The app is screaming at itself because it can’t talk to the database. A cookie file randomly was set at the wrong permission level.
