nice! go mom! I recommend Linux Mint if you both decide to go for it.
My "family" always used Microsoft products, since my uncle worked 30 years in a company that bought software from them. My cousin had all their Windows keys, 365 for Office, etc.
All these decades they didn't like the fact I used other OS than Windows (I'm saying it like this since I used for some years on my main machine at home FreeBSD and OpenSolaris, specially the former, since it was the 80% of Telmex servers), but mostly Linux of course.

I remember 20 years ago was the classic "you use Linux because you have too much time, people who actually work uses Windows".
One decade later when I was working as sysadmin in Telmex it was "ask any doctor, lawyer, any business man if they even know what is Linux. Normal people uses Windows, Linux it's for people like you".
Since they decided to left me kinda out of the family, but not entirely out (I guess guilt or some inheritance thing, I don't care), I only talk with them twice a month.
I don't know what they would say today; last time I spoke with my cousin about this he told me he had no problems with Windows 11. It would be very interesting in 5 years he having to learn piping or Vim.
