First hack I've ever played of Mega Man X, and it's not bad. The major changes are to stage layouts and boss weaknesses. There aren't many surprises, but the difficulty is ramped up. Part of that difficulty may have come from playing the game emulated: I don't have a SNES controller that works with my Linux machine without lag and had to play with a PS4 controller (no claw hand and the R1 button was finicky making dashing more difficult than necessary). Most of my deaths came from not holding down R1 hard enough and jumping into a hole.
Music was the same and enemies and bosses didn't react differently. However, boss rooms were redesigned with difficulty in mind. For example, Chill Penguin's boss room now has two bottomless pits on either side and low sections on the ceiling making dodging his attacks and avoiding instant death much more difficult. Each boss room has something like this even in Sigma's fortress.
Overall 6/10. The game was fun and it was a good early attempt at MMX hacking, but it wasn't Puresabe tier.
