Update:
Alaa's mother was discharged from the hospital once, but she wasn't getting enough to eat, the tattered tent was too cold for her, her health deteriorated, and she had to return to the hospital.
Furthermore, the seller Alaa wants to buy a tent from is saying that if payment isn't made quickly, they will sell the tent to someone else.
Alaa is completely at a loss now.
Last night she called me and just cried.
So I decided that if no one comes forward to donate by the end of today, I will donate the 218 euros she needs.
That will happen in about four hours. (Around 10:30 PM Japan time.)
This is a very difficult decision for me.
Donating this amount won't destroy my life immidiately, but it will certainly be a burden in the future as I will have to take out a loan.
The reason I dare to donate today is because I am scheduled to be hospitalized tomorrow for lung surgery. It's not a dangerous surgery, but I won't be able to contact Alaa for at least a few days, maybe even up to a week, starting tomorrow. Leaving her in such a difficult situation is unbearable for me.
I'm not telling you all this personal matter to highlight my own struggles. My concern is that 218 euros is only half the price of the tent, and it's the amount the seller is demanding as a down payment. Even if Alaa gets the tent once, she will soon find herself in dire straits. And I may not be able to help her then.
What I would like to ask of you is that while I'm away, please consider donating to Alaa so that she can pay the remaining balance of the tent's cost.
This message isn't directed at those already providing aid to the people of Gaza. I know you're doing your best and have no reserves.
My appeal is specifically for those who haven't donated before. Helping the Palestinian people is a wonderful experience. Do I seem to be struggling? That's because I haven't found anyone to help Alaa. If you do, it will make both her and me happy.
