I live about 25 miles south of Austin, but I was raised in Dallas and I always thought of Austin as the weird, cool city and Dallas the bible-thumping right-wing one, but I just found out today Dallas is taking a cue from Finland on homelessness while Austin is doing the bidding of fascist Greg Abbott on homelessness.
(Although to be fair, Deep Ellum in Dallas in the late 80s and early 90s was cool AF and how I got introduced to the punk and goth underground scene)
