The cinema experience is overrated. It's either empty and the sound doesn't compensate, or crowded and you have to deal with inconsiderate arseholes.
You'd also think that after a centaury of experience they would have clue how to run a queue by now.
I used to go to the cinema 2-3 a week. Back then tickets were fast-food cheap. Now you get better value at an expensive restaurant. This affects what movies you'll try.
The snacks have always been a gouge, but they're optional.
