I ask AI if the Confederated States of America were legally permitted to secede from the Union and it tells me "no" because in 1869 it was declared unconstitutional.
So, I ask when after 1869 did the Confederation form.
It tells me February, 1861.
I follow up by framing it as via positiva vs via negativa and ask if the states' rights were via positiva how did the secessionists justify their actions.
The AI hangs.
I try again.
It tells me the states were via positiva.
Now it's just trolling me.
But after thinking for 5 minutes, it spits out something about a contract breach, where Northern states refused to return escaped slaves and the South took that as a breach of contract and the excuse to leave the union.
So that's how it happened, then...
(I still don't get it)
