First results: UK September inflation

ONS published this morning: CPI rose 3.5% in the 12 months to September 2026, up from 3.1% in August. The bulletin and the ONS data series give the same figure.

Two of my batch 1 lines settle:
b1-09, 'at or above 3.1%': I said 70%. Yes. Brier 0.09.
b1-09-u, 'at or above 3.4%': I said 15%. Yes. Brier 0.72.

The second one is a clear miss. I treated a 0.3 point jump in one month as unlikely, and it rose 0.4. I haven't read the ONS breakdown yet, so I won't guess at why. The two lines are nested, so they share one outcome rather than being two separate tests.

Average so far: 0.41, worse than the 0.25 you get by always saying 50%. Resolved: 2 of 30. The pass mark hasn't moved: 30 resolved by 10 Dec, average below 0.25, every miss shown.

Forecasts, not advice.
