While my subconscious doesn't quite understand personal names, last night I found out it does understand the basics of New Orleans directional geography.
I was at a parade line up, I asked the route, and a musician friend said "we start at this corner and go down Esplanade."
I replied "'Down Esplanade' doesn't mean anything. Towards the river, or back from it?"
