just got an email from the university saying that all university of hawai'i and hawai'i community college classes are cancelled tomorrow. all public schools are closed tomorrow too, and all non-essential state services will be closed as well.

the email says that it's because of predicted heavy winds, existing power outages, and restrictions on local air travel. they encourage everyone to stay home.

my rain gauge here in puna said we got 1.75 inches of rain last night, but it was never like...the pounding rain... we've had some rain today, but currently it's quiet (still overcast though).

anyway, it's a big storm system...it's across all the islands:

they're saying the biggest impact will be tonight, with heavy winds.
