And there are many, many interesting facets to Israeli and Jewish politics.

Golda Meir? She got Israel's first passport so she could become an ambassador to the Soviet Union, _where she created the conditions that allowed Stalin to finally move against its Jews_ as they showed their real loyalties.

They went from nearly top dogs in the Communist Party and its organs of repression to a reviled minority that was shut out of the best schools etc. No small own goal, shall we say. Or you could turn it around and view its results in getting a _lot_ of Jews to make aliyah ... but that was fatal to the Left's lock on the country that she was a part of. These Jews knew very well where Leftism led to.

As a Western-adjacent polity, Israel's history has a lot to teach us. See my comments on _Early Medieval Jewish Policy in Western Europe_ by Bernard S. Bachrach. They had a whip hand, offered both military and monetary power in that period which was ruled by Germanic nobility after the fall of Rome.

They didn't quite understand what they inherited, and of course the Jews lost that power by the late Middle Ages, when the nastiest Ashkenazi showed their twisted sense of revenge in the so-called "blood libel." Fast forward and now they're got a great if not primary responsibility for the mass slaughter of Slavs in the Ukraine, a people they've hated since the 19th Century

The alt-history viewpoint is that they'd be a footnote in history if not for their physical proximity to the West, but....
