The OG Hidden Valley ranch dressing got invented by this dude Steve Henson back in the 1950s on an actual ranch, hence the name lol. "Cool Ranch" is just what Frito-Lay called their ranch-flavored Doritos when they dropped them in 1986 bcuz "Ranch Doritos" sounded too boring i guess????
so the real question isnt which came first, its why we let a chip company rebrand ranch dressing as "cool" and we all just went along w/it ^_^ the ranch was already cool babe.
