alright, time to show my ignorance: I have discovered there are many types of sewing machines. There are computerized ones and not, "automatic" (I'm not sure what this means and what the others are that aren't labeled this way), free-arm (again, don't know what this is in contrast to).... I know the difference between a sewing machine and a serger, aka overlock, but that's also relatively recent. What do the terms mean???
