I have no insightful things to say about the shootings in Bondi, but I have some very obvious things I could say. Sometimes we forget to say very obvious things like these.

Anti-semitism is real and pervasive and dangerous.

This is still true even when false accusations of anti-semitism are slung around as political slurs against anyone who opposes the genocide of Palestinians.

Criticising the government of the modern state of Israel isn't anti-semitism.

But anti-semitic phrases and talking points are frequently repeated by people who claim to be pro-Palestine.

And not always unwittingly. Organised anti-semitic groups are very keen to turn people's righteous anger about genocide into racial hatred of Jews.

It's hard to navigate all this when your intentions are good. But you are not excused from trying.

Because anti-semitism is real.
