maybe this is a bad take, but I'm the only one who finds the way we are "protecting kids online" kind of terrifying? i mean, i know we hate all of those, but I'm talking about a specific point: privacy of the children
at least here, the "least controversial" parts of the project establish some really draconian parental control laws, to the point you can't make accounts if you are under 16 unless they're approved by a guardian
i know this is a sensitive topic, but... isn't this awful? we are institutionalizing child surveillance by the parents, and this assumes parents have good intentions
I'm sorry to tell parents that kids and teens will keep secrets from you, they're damn humans... I'm sure we can get a middle ground, no? has anyone asked teens what they think about this?
