From Theory to 3.1 GB of Logs: Anatomy of a DNS Amplification Attack. 🛡️
Last week, my infrastructure became a target. The vector? A heavily weaponized domain (vpnv.shop) using 33 padded TXT records to create a massive 147x amplification factor.
The screenshot shows the reality of Incident Response:
The Payload: A single DNS response so large it's almost entirely Base64-padded junk.
The Impact: Over 347,000 queries logged in just a few hours.
The Proof: A 3.1 GB log file generated by a single malicious domain.
Reporting this to registrars with hard data like this is key to keeping the internet safe. This isn't just about blocking IPs; it's about identifying the source and escalating it to the right people.
