Whether it becomes daily drivable (as often in Free Software) depends to a large degree on what people make out of it (i.e. contribute patches).
We also learned that nobody takes you seriously if you don't have something to download but that's a totally different story, people have been conditioned by iOS and Android, and we can't simply undo that.
