I dunno. I think it's helpful as a way to say "I acknowledge this in a vaguely positive/negative/supportive/etc way without needing to find the actual words. In my own experience, I often find the work of finding those words to be enough friction that I probably wouldn't acknowledge things at all.
Also: I was gonna irony-boost this, but I'm pretty sure that's been done.
