perhaps my most favorite book ever is LeGuin’s ALWAYS COMING HOME which has, almost as a footnote, a global networked autonomous AI + communications system called “City of the Mind” which the agrarian utopians of the super distant future (who are the actual focus of the book) treat with casual indifference as yet another natural resource kind of like copper ore
