My husband has recently been inundated with what looks like fake publishers/agents using AI to write their long emails. It's just as you describe, but each email is nearly exactly the same. Same flowery praise. When he looked up the names, these are people who actually work for real publishers. So it seems that somebody is using their names for some unclear end.
