I use White Noise Messenger. It's pretty good, but one issue I've experienced is that messages sometimes don't get delivered on time. In fact, sometimes I have to restart my phone before they go through. I've also noticed that sending images occasionally fails. You should give it a try, or check out SimpleX as well.
