Christ almighty, when these corporate apologists get me defending the Procurement Department, something is very very wrong.

In general, Procurement is a gigantic pain in the ass. Absolutely vital for some stuff but utter crap when it comes to software. I complain about Procurement but do you know what their job is? TO MAKE SURE THE SUPPLY CHAIN WORKS AND THAT WE GET WHAT WE SPECIFY AND PAY FOR.

If you want a secure supply chain, get your procurement activities in order. Free software? No problem - that's why we have zero-dollar purchase orders. You want an assurance of quality, vetted, mostly malware free software - contract with a supplier. Don't expect Lucy the Trans Catgirl in Oakland to cater to your corporate expectations when you download her kernel modules from Github.

Pay her.

If she doesn't want to deal with purchase orders or your contract nonsense, I guess you're shit out of luck. Maybe you and your corporate pals could independently vet Lucy's free software - fork her code, resell vetting services, and juggle all that Procurement misery yourself. Don't expect free tech support from Lucy - you sell the code you got from her for free, you own the responsibilities that come with what you sell.

Lucy is not unpaid corporate labor and you need to get that idea through your thick misshapen SV VC Broligarch and CIO/CTO skulls.

Pay her or GTFO.
