Bear panic on Mt. Rausu, Shiretoko 🐻 A hiker in his 60s was chased by a bear but escaped unharmed by using bear spray, proof it works (aim for eyes/nose, empty the can, effective at 3–4m). All 3 trails now closed at Level 4 "extremely dangerous" until at least July 14, less than 2 weeks after reopening. A hiker died in a bear attack there last August.

Didn't know we had levels of emergency for bear attacks...
