Trump is trying to force states to give his admin their voter lists and block millions of ballots from being counted. The proposed rule says states would have to hand over lists of all voters set to receive mail ballots in order to allow voting by mail. The rule comes in response to a March 2026 executive order from Trump that seeks federal control over elections and major restrictions on mail‑in voting.
So far, 23 Democratic‑led states and D.C. are suing over the new USPS rule.
