Years ago I had a car where one day I started the engine and the speedometer needle jumped its little stopper peg and got stuck there.
Dealership said the only solution was to replace the entire dashboard console, over a thousand dollars.
But I found an old message board where someone said you could fix it with a magnet. So I bought a $4 magnet and, sure enough, I could pull the peg back into place. Took 30 seconds.
