One way to support Canadian businesses is to pay cash. Using any major credit card supports US owned credit card companies. It also helps businesses because when you pay cash they don't have to pay transaction fees for each purchase to the credit card companies. Some will give you a discount too.
UPDATE. Interact is good too, as it is (for now) owned by Canadian banks. Your bank/debit/ATM card will have its logo on it. But if your card says Cirrus, then it uses a system owned by Mastercard.
