We, people of Gaza, know the value of every blessing. And who could understand that value better than us, when some of the best young men among us have been killed simply trying to obtain a #PieceOfBread and a handful of flour?
But we are also human beings. We are proud people, and we have spent our entire lives having enough to eat. Receiving aid during war and siege does not mean that we should be given things that no one would accept for themselves.
Especially when the donor pays $700 for this aid package, while its actual value in Gaza does not exceed $30!!
Here is a photo showing the contents of the #FoodParcel, which represents more than 80% of the aid entering Gaza.
As for its contents:
》5 kg of crushed lentils, worth about 1 shekel per kg on the local market.
》5 kg of rice that is not fit for consumption and has no market value.
》4 liters of cooking oil, worth 36 shekels — a genuine necessity.
》4 cans of poor-quality beans with no market value.
》4 cans of good-quality chickpeas — a genuine necessity.
》1 can of tomatoes — good quality.
》½ kg of salt — acceptable.
Note: The quantities listed above are for one box, and the aid consisted of two boxes.
》One bag of flour — a genuine necessity.
What is particularly striking is that items such as beans, rice, and lentils have become a burden on families because of their poor quality or because they make up such a large proportion of the parcel. Together, they account for around 70% of its contents.
The humanitarian request of a Gazan family is simply:
● Change the contents of the parcel to include more diverse and useful items, such as olive oil, canned tuna, canned meat, sugar, milk, bulgur, canned fava beans, and tea.
● Improve the quality of the items so that they are actually fit for consumption.
○ We have not dared to ask for changes that might be considered a luxury, such as adding canned fruit, chocolate, or similar items.
