Guitar Wolf Revives Takeuchi Tetsuro’s Wild Zero Overdrive at Tokyo Gap Market

In 1999 director Takeuchi Tetsuro released Wild Zero, a low‑budget horror‑comedy that became a cult favorite for its over‑the‑top zombie action and rock‑infused soundtrack. The film follows a group of teenagers battling the undead while a rock band performs on a beach stage. Its blend of camp, gore and music earned it a dedicated following in Japan and abroad.
More than two decades later Takeuchi announced a sequel‑style project titled Wild Zero Overdrive. He described the new film as a modern reinterpretation that uses the original as a template while updating the story for contemporary audiences. The aim is to retain the chaotic spirit of the first movie while introducing fresh visual effects and a new musical lineup.
