Joe Martin on Nostr: As well as many other things, fiat degraded art and turned music into high time ...

As well as many other things, fiat degraded art and turned music into high time preference slop. There's still great music out there, but you have to work hard to find it. Lets bring back music on a hard money standard. Thanks for the work you're doing! 🤘
Joe Martin is a singer-songwriter and a 21st century troubadour. The song comes first. He grew up in the UK, learned piano as a child, picked up his father's guitar as a teenager, and has spent a decade writing Americana and country, with trips to Nashville along the way. He is based on the Isle of Man. He is fully independent. He sells merch for sats.
In this episode, Bitcoin For The Arts founder Dion Wilson talks with Joe about Alone in Valentine, the album he made on purpose without AI. He recorded it in Nashville with Cal Campbell, son of Glen Campbell, and Cornelius Webb, son of Jimmy Webb. The title comes from Valentine, a town in West Texas, and he went there to shoot the artwork himself. It took nearly two years and most of his savings. He wanted a record that could outlive him.
He also tells the practical part. The first song he put on RSS made about $100 in a week, more than that song had made him on Spotify. A zap is the moment it clicks. Listeners are still catching up to the artists, and artists are still waiting for the listeners. His advice to a younger songwriter is plain: get on Nostr, put the music on RSS, and make it easy for someone to send sats. Save what arrives. That is low time preference. It means choosing the work that lasts over the post that has to perform this week.
Sound money is the other half. Inflation makes a real album more expensive while streaming pays less. AI makes a cheap song easy. Joe's answer is the human one. A machine has not lived the life the song comes from. People still want to stand in a room and hear it.
