i could be convinced that their interests are aligned with users when it comes to protecting people from viruses and such. but I wonder how much that played into the decision to introduce these checks, and how much was an excuse to get around anticompetence and monetize users more heavily

especially considering there's many intermediate forms of this that would've still allowed advanced users to sideload their stuff
