IBM had a dress code for years, even for support folks that didn't physically see customers. white or light blue shirt, slacks, tie. one of my friends who worked there was sent home for wearing a light peach dress shirt. all the xerox repair folks used to wear ties to work on the photocopiers, even with all that toner around.
