The Owners see in LLM technology the opportunity to make the Working Class redundant, and they have pursued it with delusional abandon. Just as the USA once pursued the nuclear bomb.
They want to have that power in hand /before/ we, societally, answer the question "what happens when humans are no longer employable, through no fault of their own?" The answer answer they offer is in the treatment of our seniors and our disabled neighbours today.
