Proton, confusingly, have their own (privacy-first) AI chatbot, Lumo, while also maintaining a healthy skepticism of AI in general. Their CEO Andy Yen has been clear that a world without AI is preferable, but have decided to go the route of creating awareness about its risks and limits, and adding a chatbot to the ecosystem that ensures confidentiality is part of that effort - ensuring there is a better alternative than giving data to the tech giants. But yeah, lots of people are upset about the chatbot.

Quote from a WIRED interview with Andy Yen: ”Once we came to the conclusion that AI was here to stay, it was unavoidable—if we were to fulfill our mission—that we also had to enter the space to provide an alternative," he says. "I would probably prefer a world where AI didn’t exist, but it’s here."

I personally use Proton for my company email (I don't use or pay for Luma) and trust the privacy-enhancing features, but I use Migadu for all other projects that require email and don't pretend that e-mail can ever be truly private 😅
