There is a lot of nuance around GATE. These programs concentrate resources on the top 20 percent by academic performance. Those kids are already doing well. The rest get left behind. My kid is in a progressive school district where the teachers successfully replaced GATE with a program that tries to serve the needs of all the students. Nothing is perfect, but I like what they are trying to do here. Public school funding is always limited.
