The previous Xbox guy was one Phil Spencer and reported to be a very serious gamer ... although he was from launch to shortly after the Xbox One release a studio exec (as I understand it, One was where MS really lost the plot as a console). Similarly, Satya Nadella was doing cloud and enterprise stuff until after the Xbox One was released.
We should also note the Xbox One was created in the Steve Ballmer stack ranking era, it's a small miracle it even came out vs. for example suffering the fate of the Microsoft Kin which I know a lot more about. The org chart below is but a small approximation of that era, infighting to not be mindlessly fired by quota of ~10% every year went all the way down to individual teams.
This Asha Sharma, who had absolutely no game experience what so ever (and her attempting to gain cred in that went very badly I read, but she did admit she knew nothing which is rare in general, forget about just Indians), was only made head of it this February.
It could be, and I'm sure it was argued Xbox needed a completely different approach; here we can wonder if the pajeet mafia will be able to pull off a turnaround.
