Unpopular opinion: the concept of loving your country of birth has always been extremely weird to me. Loving? Seriously? What exactly am I supposed to love? I can only love people, and not even in general. Family. Friends. Just good people I meet everywhere in the world. But “love your country” stinks of “love your government” to me. Stank even before my country did what it did. Fuck off. I wasted enough money on income taxes when I lived there.
Or I’m just too tired of screaming on the inside.
