My parents just cancelled a trip to Oregon next month because they think the diesel they need to run their truck and pull their 5th wheel is going to get MUCH more expensive.
They're also slowing down the number of visits they make to see my grandma because it's a four hour round trip each time they go to see her. She's 96 and in congestive heart failure, and probably doesn't have that much longer on her clock.
They're about to stockpile 50 gallons of diesel for their heavy equipment that they need to run this summer to keep up with wildfire preparations and keep making better defensible space. Luckily there's a tribal gas station and hour from them that they can get fuel at without taxes so that makes it a little better. I'm looking to see if I can find a several hundred gallon fuel skid for cheap that they can fill up to have a supply into next winter since they need the heavy equipment to keep the road open during snow storms.
Pretty wild to see my parents having to reevaluate their retirement plans in real time.
