it does seem to decompose the expression *before* separately executing the expression for the assertion, which would make it slower, I *think*?

but, given that modern CPUs are fast as fuck, this isn't really an issue
I want this library because I want assertions to run in release mode anyways.
and if I want debug-only assertions in performance-critical code, I can use one of the debug-only assertion macros
